"AI is too incoherent a gambit to reverse the trend toward exhaustion of capitalist fixes"
Diyar Saraçoğlu interviews Larry Lohmann

In an interview in the series “The Political Construction of AI” produced by the Turkish organization bianet.org, The Corner House's Larry Lohmann characterizes artificial intelligence (AI) as a form of “machine colonialism” marked by indefinitely-ballooning energy consumption and brutal grabs of water and low- and zero-cost labour.
Like other industrial technologies, Lohmann notes, AI takes advantage of the 19th-century emergence of an “abstract” energy that subordinates a variety of other diverse energies into a single overarching fuel for capital. As neoliberalism segues into fascism, democratic resistance to the centuries-old but now hypertrophied capitalist gambit of AI will require more sharing and unity between labour and ecology movements.
The interview is reproduced here in English and Turkish.
